Friday Fun Find Gigi New York All In One Bag and a Special Offer

{Gigi New York All In One Bag, $98}

Can you believe Ive never owned a black bag before? I mean, big red hair, a loud mouth, and a general disregard for "blending in" dont exactly lend themselves to the understated. In my history of purse and bag ownership, Ive had hot pink, gold, bronze, tan, pony print, and even brown. So when I laid my eyes on this gorgeous clutch by Gigi New York, I decided if I was gonna class it up and get a black bag in my lifetime, now was the time.
Everything about this bag is  special: the buttery yellow box it arrives in...

...the suede tassel and gold hardware zipper pull...
...the supple leather lining interior...
...the fact that it can be monogrammed--and match your nails!...
...and the fact that you can score 20% off your Gigi New York purchase with a special offer exclusive to CupcakesOMG! readers!!!!
Thats right folks, the "fine leatha goods" retailer is offering a 20% discount to all of you on any purchase at their website for the next 30 days! To take advantage, simply use the promo code "OMG" at checkout.

And this is why my new clutch is this weeks Friday Fun Find--and now its yours too!

So, what color clutch are you gonna get? And are you doing monogramming??

Chocolate all the way from New Zealand!

I entered a giveaway on The Kitchen Maid blog to celebrate the 1st Birthday of Lucys blog.  There were loads of prizes and I was lucky enough to win two bars of Whittakers Dark Almond Chocolate.  I arrived home today to a parcel from New Zealand and there were my two giant bars of choc!

Its a long way from New Zealand but the chocolate had survived very well.  Possibly due to the fact that these arent your wimpy thin bars like the ones we get here. These are great big slabs of thick, dark chocolate absolutely stuffed with almonds.

Obviously we had to sample it in order to tell you what it was like, well it would be rude not to.  So what is it like?  To be honest, my first thought was that it tasted just like French and German chocolate, dark and not too sweet.  Mr Farmer was particularly taken with it and I can see that I am going to have to hide it away or he will be eating it at every opportunity!

Thank you very much Lucy, its so nice when giveaways are open to people all over the world and you get a chance to taste something new and different.

Our New Apartment Design By Color

Create a built-in look with Ikea bookcases.
Create a budget-friendly built-in look with IKEA bookcases.

My mind is a wee bit toasted this happy June Monday. No Darling, I haven't been indulging in any fragrant mind-altering substances. I've been unpacking. I've been organizing (like a sixties housewife popping mother's little helpers). I've been making hundreds thousands one million micro-decisions. Important, earthshaking decisions. Like, where should we stow tea boxes? Chocolate? Quinoa flakes? And what drawer would be most convenient for the ice cream scoops? (Yes, I have three.) Where should the recycled aluminum foil and rolls of toilet paper go- you know, in a feng shui sense?

Because above all else, I am seeking calm. I am cultivating peace. I am inviting inspiration. Preparing for my muse. Opening to a new chapter in this winding road journey of ours, hurtling as we are, ever faster to our mortality (yes, another June birthday looms).

We have landed in Studio City on a quiet leafy street, where pajama clad neighbors walk their dogs early, sipping soy lattes and yawning to birdsong.

These are my people.

I haven't been cooking much (though I did bake some chocolate mint cupcakes for a certain son's birthday this weekend), which means I don't have a new recipe to share- yet. So I thought I'd share a few iPhone shots of our new living space. A quick peep into our new apartment. And just so you know?

I shelve my books by color.

Will this Great Broccoli Salad Become Your New Favorite Summer Side Dish Probably Not

I never make cold broccoli salad, so when I decided to film a recipe for one, I didnt have a ton of previous experience to draw from.

I remember having a great one next to a piece of grilled salmon in Monterey years ago, but all I remembered was it was very cold, very lemony, and kind of spicy.

The only other cold broccoli salad taste memory I have is from the annual post-Passport, Sunday night dinner that Bill Frick hosts for the family after the event. Bill makes a super simple, but perfectly delicious version that really shines next to a platter of grilled chicken.

Using both these salads as inspiration, I proceeded with the blanching and the whisking, and what was produced far exceeded my expectations. This is a great tasting, very refreshing, and believe it or not, interesting salad.

Will this become your favorite summer sid
e dish? I doubt it. Its really very good, but how can you complete with such iconic picnic table fixtures as potato and macaroni salad? Lets face it, its still broccoli after all.

Nevertheless, you can never have enough vegetable side dish recipe ideas, so I hope you give this tasty, easy-to-make salad a try. Enjoy!

1 1/2 pounds broccoli
3 cloves garlic, mashed
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp rice vinegar
